Joing Our Team

We're Hiring!

Strategic Officer – 18 Hours a Week at £18,000 a year

This is an exciting role to be part of the growing Newham District Foodbank. Ascension Community Trust started a foodbank in March 2020. On 9th June 2021 our foodbank officially became part of the Trussell Trust network, its name is Newham District Foodbank. Trussell Trust is an organisation that supports a nationwide network of food banks, providing emergency food and support to people facing poverty. The organisation also campaigns to end the need for foodbanks in the UK. Being part of the Trussell Trust network means we will follow their carefully thought out systems and procedures, which includes a specific referral system.

We were named Newham District Foodbank, because our plan is to expand to more than one distribution centre to ensure that people across the whole of Newham are well supported. As part of the strategy, we have already secured funding from Trussell Trust to have debt and benefit advisors supporting each new distribution centre.

The aims of this new post are to establish Newham District Foodbank, currently part of Ascension Community Trust, as an independent registered charity. To liaise with other existing foodbanks, churches and charities within Newham to identify new distribution centres to be part of Newham District Foodbank and support them to follow Trussell Trust systems and processes. And in partnership with the distribution centres and new trustees to create a new strategic plan for Newham District Foodbank. Because of the complexity of this role we are looking for someone with a high level of experience in a strategic role and working within the charity sector, including setting up a registered charity.
